James Meger was a wildlife artist who painted many pieces that reflected his rural upbringing and love of nature. His works also emphasized realism. He won the Minnesota State Duck Stamp Competition in 1980, and his career subsequently flourished. He garnered numerous awards throughout his life, including over fifteen Best of Show and Popular Choice awards at major national shows around the country. James Meger also worked with conservation organizations and was awarded the Pheasants Forever Artist of the Year six times.
