Brand Introduction:
Plaintiff, Haruyo Morita, is the owner of the Copyright Registrations that protect the creative content of the Haruyo Morita Works. Morita is an artist whose primary subjects are women in kimono and idyllic settings. Her work is best described as a contemporary representation of the traditional Ukiyo-e, ranging from the Heian to Edo and Meiji periods. From an early age her artistic talents were evident, and she came under the tutelage of a master artist who introduced her to the classic narratives and pictorial compositions that have made Japanese images so popular worldwide. While still a schoolgirl, her work was accepted into and won at regional art competitions. After school, she worked as a kimono painter and designer until 1972, when she turned to her current medium. Her paintings have been reproduced as Giclée prints, jigsaw puzzles, calendars, wallpaper, and posters. She has held exhibitions around the word including London, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, Saudi Arabia, and Tokyo.
