Brand Introduction:
Plaintiff, David E. LaChapelle, is the owner of the Copyright Registrations that protect the creative content of the David LaChapelle Works. LaChapelle is a celebrated photographer and video artist, best known for his commercial fashion portraits of celebrities and models. LaChapelle’s signature style blends colorful, conceptual imagery, influenced by Surrealism and Pop Art. He has been obsessed with photography since he was a child, when he took a photo of his mother on a family vacation. His career as a photographer began in the 1980s when he started to show his art in New York galleries. His photographs of celebrities caught the attention of Andy Warhol, who offered him his first job as a photographer at Interview Magazine. LaChapelle’s mastery of color, unique composition, and imaginative narratives expanded the genre of photography. His staged tableau, portrait, and still life works challenged traditional photography, quickly gaining international interest. In the decades since, LaChapelle has become one of the most published photographers worldwide with an anthology of books. His work has also expanded into music video, film, and stage projects. Many of his still and film works have become iconic archetypes of America in the 21st Century.
