Plaintiff, Fonny van der Veen, is the owner of the Copyright Registrations that protect the creative content of the Fonny van der Veen Works. Van der Veen is an artist who creates intricate, textured paintings of animals with humanlike features using old wood as her canvas. From a young age she loved and revered animals and traditional craftmanship. These values and memories from her childhood continue to inspire and shape her artistic vision. She worked in the hospitality industry before finding her calling at a painting shop. She started creating commissioned wall decorations, gradually developing her own unique style and transitioning to canvas. She was inspired one day by parts of a broken fence, which made her consider using old wood as a canvas for her artwork. While experimenting with acrylic paints, she discovered the boundless possibilities that wood offers, including its intricate patterns and textures. Setting her work apart from traditional canvas paintings, van der Veen seamlessly integratesthe rugged beauty mof wood into her compositions by combining its roughness and details with figurative animal depictions which often take on human-like qualities, adding depth and personality to her art.
