JOSEPH MURRAY HAUTMAN, is an American painter, best known for his realism wildlife art. He creates artwork featuring diverse North American animals, as well as tigers and other wildlife. The well-researched details and accurate naturalistic settings in his paintings are a reflection of his scientific background, as well as his reverence for the wildlife and their habitat. Hautman loved to draw and paint from an early age, but his artistic talents took a back seat to his academic career in science where he earned a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. He entered and won the 1991 Federal Duck Stamp contest which provided him the incentive to return professionally to the arts. Now, he is a full-time artist, finding equal satisfaction and challenges in his art career as he did in scientific pursuits. He has since won the Federal Duck Stamp competition a total of six times, and his artwork has been sued to raise funds for many non-profit conservation groups including Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Sierra Club.
