Brand Introduction:
Plaintiff, Mariann Johansen-Ellis, is the owner of the Copyright Registrations that protect the creative content of the Mariann Johansen-Ellis Works. Johansen-Ellis is a printmaker and painter who creates linocuts and aquatint etchings. She began her printmaking journey in 1989 after moving abroad, where she bought her first press and started selling her work. She is self-taught, having made every mistake possible and learning as she went along, until she developed a clear language of her own in her chosen medium. Johansen-Ellis’s work is all about the small things in life that bring pleasure, such as a walk in nature, shared moments of joy with families, or a good book. She intentionally tries to bring a sense of humor to her work, inviting viewers to share a smile with her. To her, printmaking is a democratic art form, as one does not have to be rich to buy one of her prints, and allowing both artist and viewer to be collectors.
