Plaintiff, Susan Florence Comish, is the owner of the Copyright Registration that protects the creative content of the Susan Comish Work. Comish is a renowned portrait artist, author, and illustrator, famous for her Christmas and Santa Claus prints. She first became enamored with oil painting as a child when her parents commissioned artist Gene W. Anthony to paint her portrait. This started a lifetime of intrigue with the difficult art of painting people. After studying art, dance, and music in college, Comish had the opportunity to study portraiture with artists John Howard Sanden, Robert Bruce Williams, and the one who originally inspired her: Gene W. Anthony. In the 1980s she painted a portrait of her father, dressed as Santa Claus, which started a request for similar paintings every year from buyers all over the country. Her Christmas images are made into prints, boxes, puzzles, flags, cards, and many other holiday items sold in stores across North America. Comish receives commissions from clients all around the world, and her paintings hang in universities, businesses, research institutions, and private homes on several continents. She is a member of the Portrait Institute of New York and a certified member of the American Portrait Society.
