Brand introduction:
Patterson is a studio artist and high school art teacher. Plaintiff is always reaching for new techniques, trends, and assignments that will engage her class and connect with her patrons. She has developed several concentrations and portfolios over the years, but her most recent artistic pursuit is drawing on pages from discarded dictionaries. These simple little drawings resemble vintage illustrations from her childhood, and many of the subjects in her work are keepsakes or remembrances from her family farm that was established over one hundred years ago on the Oklahoma prairie.
Patterson captures her subjects on pages from 30- to 150-year-old dictionaries which are fragile and require multiple mediums to develop. She has also developed a method of reproducing dictionary pages on equally old parchment paper which enables her to work with larger pages than typical book sizes. She has been recognized as an Oklahoma Centennial Artist in 2005 and 2007, as well as the Oklahoma Artist in Residence by the Oklahoma State Arts Council from 1990 to 1995. Her work has been displayed in various galleries and is available for purchase on her personal Etsy shop.
